D.A.R.E & G.R.E.A.T. Programs

The Sebastian Police Department prides itself in the fact it stays not only involved with the community, but with the schools within the community.  We service Sebastian Elementary and Pelican Island Elementary as well as Sebastian Charter Junior High.  All three schools have D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance education) being taught to the fifth grade classes each year and has become a milestone for those students.  G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) is taught to the charter school’s seventh graders.

D.A.R.E. teaches our children how to be strong and stand up for what is right, such as saying no to drugs and peer pressure.  We promote confidence for these students because they are the future of our community and we need our youth to be strong.  With the G.R.E.A.T. program the students are given a task to “Make the community a GREAT place”.  The students, along with the G.R.E.A.T. officer, have gone out and cleaned up the parks as well as the riverfront to continue with the effort of making their community a GREAT place. Our department will continue to make our community a better place by teaching our youth what is important in making our community strong.  Each of the programs we provide has become essential in the student’s curriculum.  We continue to make an effort to present the students with the ability to forge a relationship with our police officers.
