FDLE: Register for the Florida Offender Alert System

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is urging residents to sign up for an alert system that will notify them when registered sex offenders move into their neighborhood.

The agency is promoting the system ahead of Halloween, when children go out trick or treating.

The Florida Offender Alert System can be set up to send email notifications if a registered sex offender moves into a neighborhood or other location designated by the resident.

Residents can go to www.flsexoffender.net to subscribe to the system. The neighborhood search feature also allows users to see registered sex offenders now living within a quarter to five mile radius of the address entered.

The system is offered free throughtout the state. Users can select an unlimited number of addresses. The email notification will be sent within 24 to 48 hours of an address change to the system's registry. More than 48,000 registered sex offenders are now listed on the state's sex offender registry.
